Last Minute: The Orchid Show

Here at Enjemma.com we love all things botanical - from facial lotions to body scrubs.
So, this last minutes section - is a must see!  The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden is on now and runs through until this coming Monday 25th April .

I partically love orchids and always buy several for my apartment.  Orchids along with other flowers bring beauty and radiant colour to any room.

Places I Love: Clic Bookstore & Gallery

My family and I recently visited Clic Bookstore & Gallery Clic Gallery

We were delighted and surprised to find a friendly and warm gallery assistant.  For the record, his name is Christian (FYI - keep up the good work!).

As most parents know, and will openly tell you, going to a bookstore, gallery or museum is always a daunting experience with  two young children.  We expected to be greeted by a line of sour faced assistants - who would quickly rush us out.  But in truth, we found a very helpful and informative assistant in Christian.

Clic is currently showing Lulu de Kwiatkowski with her latest feat, the Collages Exhibition.

Some of my favorite inspirational artist Lyle Owerko and Massimo Vitali can also be found at the gallery.
If only they could stock some kids books, then we would be one happy book collecting family.

"Collages by Lulu de Kwiatkowski" is open now until May 8, 2011 - Catch it if you can!

Rule Of Engagement: Play Dates

For those of you new to the world of play dates.  I have asked, observed, talked and debated the rules of engagement with some of my close girlfriends.  Clearly the are several unsaid transatlantic rules.
Here are some of my finding:
1.) Always make sure you arrive on time.
2.) Always bring something for your guest (please note - this only applies to your first visit) after this point, gift bringing is discretionary.
3.) Compliment your host on how lovely their apartment or house is - even when its not!
4.) When your child objects to sharing - in my case, my daughter objects to sharing the toys and my son objects to sharing the snacks - reassure your host that this is NOT normal  "Enjemma is always really good at sharing, she must be VERY tired"! - That line always works!
5.) End the play date by said "We must do this again soon".

I would love to hear about your experiences.

Food: Good Friday Dish

Today is God Friday -Traditionally, this meant only fish should be eaten. So for those of you looking for fish dishes that are fairly child proof, here are some of my suggestions.

FISH & CHIPS with a side order of peas - a good old fashioned dish that never dates.

Fish & Chips
SALMON FISH CAKES with a side order of green salad - my daughter tends to leave the salad, whilst my son eats everything in sight!

RED SNAPPER With shrimp, clams, and artichokes in a light lemon broth - this is a more grown up dish, which my kids love too - as long as i remove the clams!

Big things: The Royal Wedding

With only one week to go until the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, we couldn't resist and have joined the bandwagon.  After all, an estimated 2 and the half billon people will watch the wedding on TV, over the Internet or through other digital platforms. With one simple move - William and Kate's engagement - has proudly taken the British monarchy and brand makeover case studies to new levels.  As we all know, even the most documented need a makeover from time to time. Congrats!

Interiors: Kids stuff

I love interiors and I especially love how a people's personality comes across in their selection of art work, design and collections.  With two young children of my own, I'm always looking for new and interesting ways to decorate their bedroom. Children can be so inspiring and what better way to inspire them by creating a beautiful room for them to play, draw, laugh and - let's be honest - sometimes cry in:-)

Fashion: Mini-me

Emmanuelle Alt was named the new editor-in-chief of French Vogue back in January after the departure of Carine Roitfeld. For her first issue as editor-in-chief  Alt went with a sure thing - Supermodel Gisele in D&G.

But here at Enjemma we are more interested in her daughter. As you can see from the photo's below she is always well turned out.

Things to do: TriBeCa Film Festival!

After much deliberation and two sleepless nights (not on my count, but my kids, as they were kept-up by all the noise from the concert!) I have decided my opening blog post should be about the 10th Anniversary, of TriBeCa Film Festival! This year’s star-packed lineup kicked off with Cameron Crowe’s highly anticipated music documentary The Union. Followed by a live performance from Sir Elton John.  So, if you are in town make sure you catch one of the many films on show.  My family and i will be watching The Muppets take Manhattan tomorrow.
